We are looking for an applied economist with experience with Latin America and other emerging markets to play a leading role within our newly-created Latin America and Caribbean Desk. The selected candidate will manage research and policy-dialogue activities related to the monitoring and evaluation of Latin America's performance in a cross-country, comparative perspective. S/he will work under the supervision of the Head of the Latin America and Caribbean Desk.
1. Research • Monitor and analyse economic trends in Latin America, using a quantitative and analytical approach that compares performance of Latin American and OECD economies, applying the expertise of the OECD Development Centre and other OECD Directorates in setting benchmarks and identifying suitable indicators. • Participate to the research activities with leading academics, think thanks, and other international organisations, particularly in Latin America, involved with the Centre’s work on Latin America and emerging economies. • Prepare reports, articles, and discussion papers and present their conclusions to the relevant decision makers and institutions from OECD member and non-member countries. 2. Management • Co-ordinate and supervise the work of experts and/or research assistants in the preparation of research documents and policy-dialogue activities. 3. Dissemination and policy dialogue • Contribute to the dissemination and policy-dialogue activities undertaken in the context of the Latin American Economic Outlook project, including organisation of and participation in such events in OECD member states, Latin American countries and other potential venues. 4. Liaison • Co-operate with other OECD Directorates and Committees, as well as research and government institutions in OECD member and non-member countries, international organisations and other partners working on Latin American issues. |

1. Education and Experience • A PhD in economics. • Three to seven years of international professional experience in research and analytical activities in the public, private or academic sectors. • Proven experience working with research and policy institutes in the public, private and/or non profit sectors in Latin America and the Caribbean on economic issues relevant to the region. 2. Key competencies • Strong analytical skills demonstrated by academic success and professional achievements. • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and diplomatic skills. • Ability to work in a multicultural team. • Ability to supervise and co-ordinate the work of others. • Genuine commitment to the work of the OECD in promoting international co-operation. 3. Communication and OECD official languages • Excellent writing and communication skills and a high standard of professional competence. • Excellent knowledge of one of the two official languages of the Organisation (English and French), including excellent drafting ability in that language. Working knowledge of the other language. • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese would be an asset. |
